Christantus Uche Ignites Dominant Palace Win at Irish Side Shelbourne.
Even though embarking on their maiden European adventure, Oliver Glasner's side are learning at a rapid pace. Missing star players like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the London club left Dublin with a commanding win that virtually secures them a spot in the Conference League playoffs.
A further three points in their upcoming match against Finland's KuPS should be sufficient to seal direct entry to the knockout stages, especially following a prior setback against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Grasp the Moment
This occasion provided a platform for some of Palace's fringe players to shine. Christantus Uche, making only his second beginning after joining on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a clinical finish. Forward Eddie Nketiah contributed a another, scoring for the second consecutive match.
The Shelbourne side that had concluded their domestic season proved outmatched against a mostly rotated Palace outfit. The visitors were further depleted by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with leg problems.
Dominance Asserted from the Outset
Despite heavy rain in Dublin, Palace quickly took control. A slick passing sequence in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, allowed Nketiah to set up Uche for a straightforward tap-in.
Midfielder Adam Wharton came close soon after, driving a long-range effort over the bar. Nketiah then claimed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the referee waved away the protests.
Ex-Arsenal man didn't need to wait long to find his goal, prodding home from close range after Uche's shot had struck the post.
Shelbourne were clinging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for a couple of agricultural tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a header from a corner.

The match was as good as over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some weak challenges before coolly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.
Following the break, manager Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest several individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse almost scoring with his first touch, but saw his effort blocked.
Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche also missed a sitter of a chance, indicating there is still room for development in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a late knock to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This paved the way for 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to earn his senior debut, capping an otherwise positive night for the visiting side.
