Zohran Mamdani Vows a 'New Era' for New York City in Inaugural Address
In a inauguration day in his new role, Zohran Mamdani vowed to “reimagine” New York City, promising “a new era” and an audacious commencement to his term.
A Groundbreaking Figure
The 34-year-old political star, who just a year ago remained a relatively obscure state assemblyman, now stands as the city's first mayor born in Africa. He also made history by being the first to be take the oath of office using the Qur'an.

Facing External Headwinds
The new mayor will deal with apprehension from some Jewish New Yorkers alarmed by his past criticisms regarding Israel. Tensions were revealed during the transition when a appointments director resigned over controversial past social media posts.
Mamdani has attempted to address these tensions by persuading Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch to remain, avoiding the optics of losing a top Jewish official.
